Here are rules for all shamans. Shamans ARE allowed to wear jewelery, but keep it to a minimum (ex:pawring, necklace). Shaman's jewelery reflects their species. Wolves have dark blue jewels, cats have orange and birds have a bright green. Shamans may have slightly different markings and colouring, because they were Chosen.
To be Chosen is to become gifted with a deitie's powers. Colours are specific to the deitie (ex:sun=red, moon=pale blue). Powers are mostly healing, or enchancing abilities, but each shaman's power is slightly different, because of what group it is in. A leopard's powers are different from a cougar's, a wolf from a secretive pack has different powers than a wolf in a more friendly pack.
If I missed something, please notify me.

Something else too. You cannot make you're character already a Shaman(excuse Moonpearl's) or else everyone would be a Shaman. I will probaly appoint you Shaman, or stormecho will. Other than that, we might make an announcement if we change it!

How do you become appointed Shaman? Do you have to do something special? And with regards to colours: You mentioned that shamans can have different colours, etc. How do you change that if they're appointed, not born a Shaman? Do you just edit the character's description, or what?

If a shaman mates with a non-shaman, the pup is automatically a shaman. If you find out that you have powers, the colours appear when you use them, and once you are a full-fledged shaman, the colours are permanent. You need to complete your training first though, with the resident shaman(ex:Moonpearl)

I was hoping to learn to control Water and Fire. I don't know how I'm going to do that. I know I need to be trained at it, but how and who would have to train me?

And let me say this, you cannot, I repeat, CANNOT, be an alpha/alphess/leader, if you are a shaman. They are two entirely different ranks. A shaman can mate with the alpha/alphess/leader, and the pup would be a shaman. Or, some accident happened and you received powers. Oh, and in the caves, a wolf, cat or bird shaman will find out which god/goddess they serve.

If a shaman mates with a non-shaman, then the non-shaman can become shaman of that pack too. So...there will be two shamans.

But, why can't an Alphess/Alpha be a leader, as well as a Shaman? That's what I don't understand.

"An alpha has a different rank. A shaman is expected to use his/her powers for the greater good of the pack. An alpha is supposed to lead the pack and make good descisions. Im agine having to do both. =)

What if the pack leader knows how to control a power. Could the leader still be leader if he or she knows how to control something, like Water and Fire?

A leader may know how to use a certain element, but she can't use it for anything except if the pack shaman is dead and the pack is in grave danger.
